 
Let’s make this Independence Day different!
Let’s not just celebrate independence from colonial rule but propagate the ‘independence of opportunity’.
This Independence Day, Boond hopes to celebrate in a unique way. We want to give a scholarship to deserving meritorious children (between 12-15) from underprivileged backgrounds living in remote villages.
But not a cash scholarship, which would probably be taken away from them but one that, empowers them to study better and improve their lives. We want to give the children a solar home system that will help them study longer, without hurting their eyes or covering their faces with kerosene soot. Along with this, our wonderful partners have also decided to donate educational and awareness materials that will expose them to the outer world and teach them basic habits and values.
How we plan to do this is simple. We just need 1000 people to sponsor Rs. 1000 each. This would help us reach 250 children in the three districts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh who are presently living in un-electrified below poverty line villages. The economics are simple and achievable since we have over 5000 friends and supporters (who have a lot of friends themselves) and Rs. 1000 is typically less than a cost of a dinner for two people in most cities.
The scholarships will be awarded to the top 10 students of every class (from grade 6 – 10) in five schools (three in UP and two in Rajasthan) based on their previous class results and attendance in a function on the 15th of August.
