About Boond
Boond is a very simple social enterprise. We try to solve the three biggest development problems in
India (adequate light, clean water and pest control) by providing poor people living in remote areas of
the country with solar lamps, water purifiers and mosquito nets as a part of our Boond development
Kit. Since we cross subsidize through the www.boond.net platform and get them manufactured in bulk
and bundle them together, we manage to keep the costs (and overheads) low and hence price
ourselves much lower than the market. Furthermore, we run workshops to spread awareness and also
recruit local people as ‘Boond Officers’ for our sales and collection agents, which has an additional
benefit of employment generation. Our kits are also available through payment plans (3 month) for
below poverty line (BPL) families to make them affordable and we work through NGO partners who
provide us ground support.
Boond Leaders
BoondLeaders are our instruments of change and take the Boond vision to remote villages working like
our full time Business Development associates. They go to the rural areas, run workshops, demonstrate
the kit, initiate partnerships, conduct research and gather feedback. Boond Leaders spearhead the
Boond movement and make a huge impact by working at a grass root level trying to understand the
problems of those living below poverty and coming up with workable solutions for them.
The work is difficult and challenging but superbly satisfying and impactful. After the two months on the
field, most leaders go back home with a ‘once in a life time’ experience and a number of memorable
stories.
